Building Batten
Garrett Hall

The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy has just completed a decade of building a premier institution from the ground up. Thanks to the school’s original benefactor and the extraordinary work of the Batten community’s pioneering students and founding faculty, the University has transformed the vision into reality.

Frank Batten identified the critical need to educate the next generation of leaders, young men and women who will shape the future of this country, and the world. Reflecting on ten years of progress, we can confidently say that we are fulfilling Frank Batten’s dream. Batten annually graduates students who have taken leadership positions and are already putting their stamp on the world.

We couldn’t be more proud of how far we have come, yet there is much work ahead. We challenge our students to reach and grow; it is time for our school to do the same. In order to achieve our goal of climbing to the top of the ranks of leadership and policy schools, we must now take a major step forward.

Garrett Hall has been a wonderful home as we have built the foundation for our school. However, a school that began with a half dozen faculty and twenty-five students in 2008 now has a cohort of 337, with 32 faculty and more than 540 students across Grounds enrolled in Batten classes. We serve a community that needs at least 50,000 Square feet in a building with only 14,000. As we look to the future, our need for classroom and research space requires us to build a new facility.

The University supports this mission fully from the Board of Visitors through the administration. Our future prospects are exciting. The opportunity to capitalize on our current momentum and advance our school and potential is now.
